The Worst Texas Speed Traps

With the 4th of July on a Wednesday this year, many people are going ahead and taking all of next week off. And for many of them, their travels begin today.

Expect long lines at the airport and lots of traffic on the highways, which means lots of revenue for the speed traps.

Among the big cities, Houston is mentioned on almost every list, usually near the top, well ahead of Dallas and Fort Worth.

Among the worst intersections locally?  Forest Lane and Denton Drive in Dallas.

As for the small towns, Patton Village is prominently mentioned on almost every speed trap list.  That's just northeast of Houston on Interstate 69.

Also, the town of Timpson, just east of Nacogdoches.

But the worst of the worst, once again, is the town of Estelline, also known as "Shakedown City."  It's on Highway 287 up in the Panhandle.

Only 145 people live there and there's only one cop, but he's always busy.

Headed north into Estelline, the speed limit drops from 75 to 35, just as you come around a blind curve.  And they'll be waiting for you.
