Honor in the Dust Theodore Roosevelt and War in the Philippines. Investigative journalist, foreign correspondent and finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, Gregg Jones will discuss his book Honor in the Dust: Theodore Roosevelt, War in the Philippines, and the Rise and Fall of America’s Imperial Dream at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 17 at the Allen Public Library, 300 N Allen Dr. Free.  214-509-4911. 

Wake: The Life of Yogananda (2014)....Learn more about this Hindu swami and his efforts to bring enlightenment to the West is to watch Awake: The Life of Yogananda. This film about the life of the Paramahansa Yogananda, will be shown at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at the Allen Public Library, 300 N. Allen Dr.  Call 214-509-4911. Free. 

Brandon Boyd, the lead singer for the rock band Incubus, has an art exhibit at Samuel Lynne Galleries today through June 2. In the early 2000’s each band member began to individually explore creative avenues outside of the band – art, film, and literature – allowing Boyd to discover his natural talent as a painter.

The AT&T Byron Nelson happening at Trinity Forest Golf Course through Sunday (5/20) The tournament celebrates its 50th anniversary in its new home at Trinity Forest Golf Course, which is located 9 miles south of downtown Dallas off I-45 and Great Trinity Forest Way (Loop 12). The Bryon Nelson is one of North Texas' biggest sports attractions.

The Legends of the Seas Come Alive at Scarborough Renaissance Festival this weekend (5/19-20) in the form of  Pirates, Mermaids and all manner of sea creatures!  For this second to last weekend of the 2018 season, there will be a wide array of special events and entertainment taking place throughout the weekend to celebrate. Children (12 & under) in pirate, mermaid and sea creature costumes are invited to compete in a costume contest each day.  Get all the details and register for the contest at the Front Gate by 12 noon each day.  On both Saturday and Sunday, there will also be a children’s Pirate Initiation ceremony at 12:15 pm at the Festival’s Royal Marquee (where the Knighting Ceremony traditionally takes place) along with a children’s Pirate Treasure Hunt throughout the Festival. Treasure maps can be found at East Wind Games (in the Pecan Grove area).

Then there’s the Turkey Leg Eating Contest. If you think you can eat a giant roasted turkey leg faster than anyone else, make sure to register at the Front Gate by 12 noon each to give it a try and have the chance to win a great Scarborough prize package!

Visitors to Scarborough Renaissance Festival are also invited to experience a keg tapping that is being done just as they did it hundreds of years ago.

Taste Addison serves up the best bites and beats at Addison Circle Park from May 18 – 20, 2018. The festival features a variety of family-friendly activities, many of which are included with your admission ticket. Guests can attend cooking demos, enjoy the carnival and games, sip drinks from the Craft Beer Hall and Wine Garden, and catch live entertainment from today’s hottest country artists.

Main Street Fest, a Craft Brew Experience, is tomorrow through Sunday at Historic Downtown Grapevine. Check out the Best in Fashion Show at the City of Denton Animal Shelter Saturday (5/19) featuring UNT Fashion Designers & the Dogs of Denton Animal Shelter. All ticket sale proceeds will benefit the shelters Emergency Medical Care fund which allows the shelter to care/treat any sick or injured animals they intake!

Beastro is at the Fort Worth Zoo Friday night. There is a book signing Saturday, May 20 from 11:45 to 1:30pm at Mutts Canine Cantina for "Dogs in Vests". The book is a guide for training your dog to be a service dog. It features Mazie and Stella, Labradoodles...and Malachi, a Husky mix.  All three will be at the book signing and there will be live music as well.
