As summer unofficially kicks off this Memorial Day weekend, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science has summer-themed science activities and a totally transformed Being Human Hall to fill your three-day weekend.  From May 25-28, guests can enjoy daily activities involving summertime sand slime, erupting watermelons, fireflies, shark dissections, ocean waves and more. Children 5 and under can get hands on with patriotic discovery bottles, hurricane exploration and art activities in the Moody Family Children’s Museum, plus all visitors can take advantage of extended hours through Sept. 3.

DISCOUNTS! From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day (May 25-Sept. 3), veterans, active and retired U.S. military personnel, and first responders will receive complimentary general admission plus $3 off general admission for their immediate family members (up to six people). In addition, the Community Partners Ticket Program returns to provide greater access to lower-income families, offering $1 general admission for guests who qualify based on need.

To fit in all the fun, the Perot Museum will stay open until 6 p.m. beginning Friday (May 25).

The Allen Community Band (ACB), under the direction of Craig Logan, will honor those we have lost in accordance with the Memorial Day Holiday by opening the concert with Semper Fidelis ("always faithful" or "always loyal") by John Phillip Sousa, followed by On A Hymn Song Philip Bliss by David Holsinger at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 25, at the Allen Public Library Civic Auditorium, 300 N. Allen Dr.  Free. Call 214-509-4911.

Celebrate Memorial Day at the Dallas Arboretum this weekend. (May 25-28) In honor of our armed forces the Arboretum offers free admission into the main garden all four days for active duty members and veterans of the United States military, and first responders with a valid photo ID. On Memorial Day, the celebration continues with face painting and a petting zoo in the Pecan Grove. Enjoy $2 hot dogs and $2 root beer floats at the Terrace Café. There will also be plenty of music.

If you have the stomach for it, check out Grossology and Animal Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body, a science-in-disguise exhibition where kids get the answers to many of the slimy, oozy, crusty, stinky questions they absolutely love to ask about the human body. It is happening at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History beginning Saturday May 26.

This weekend is the final weekend of Scarborough Renaissance Festival. Celebrate all things Renaissance period Saturday through Monday (May 26-28).

On Memorial Day Monday, May 28, Scarborough Renaissance Festival will pay tribute to our Servicemen and women by inviting all current and retired Military Service members to march in Scarborough’s Grande Parade at 1pm. Each service member will receive a complimentary yellow sash so that everyone can recognize their service to our Country. 

Immediately following the Parade, there will be a special memorial and tribute ceremony for our fallen Servicemen and women at the Festival’s Chess Field. As always, active duty Military members are offered an admission discount of $4 off adult admission when they show their military ID at the Festival ticket booth.

See Grapevine’s Friday Night Fireworks light up the North Texas sky as part of the City’s 10th Annual SummerBlast. Running with Bonnie and Clyde is at Hall of State Monday May 28. Join the Dallas Historical Society on Memorial Day Monday from 9 AM to 2 PM, and uncover the lives of those famous outlaw lovers from Dallas - Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. Bus tour will be guided by author John Neal Phillips and will include stops in West Dallas, Oak Cliff, Dallas, as well as the cemeteries where they were each buried. Lunch is included in the ticket price.
