He was one of the most influential figures in the history of the television industry.  The impact of his creativity and genius continues to be felt in the sitcoms of today.

Legendary actor, writer and producer Carl Reiner died from natural causes Monday night at his home in Beverly Hills, Calif.  He was 98.

Reiner, the father of actor-director Rob Reiner, was a key figure in the TV medium from its infancy.  And, after creating, directing and co-starring in "The Dick Van Dyke Show" in the early 1960s, he would go on to make countless television and film appearances, remaining active well into his 90s.

At Syracuse University, pop culture expert Dr. Robert Thompson reflected on the legacy of Carl Reiner as he spoke with KRLD's Chris Sommer
